Top 7 Benefits Of A Daily Skincare Routine

You’ve probably read some of our articles by now, and by this point you’ve probably noticed that skincare is a pretty vast, and complicated field of knowledge and practices. Skincare tackles anything from dark circles under your eyes, to combating acne, treating severe scars, reducing signs of aging and even treating chronic skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. But one aspect of skincare never changes - the skincare routine. Today, we look at the benefits of following a daily skincare routine, and why you should adopt one. Let’s see.

1. Daily Skincare Routines Bring Reliable Results

See, as with most things in life, if you do something only occasionally and randomly, chances are it won’t be very effective at whatever you’re trying to achieve. Just like athletes need to exercise almost any day and go through strict regimens, your skin and body need consistency in order to adopt gradual changes. The same goes, really, for weight loss. Or learning how to swim. Or even learning how to play the guitar. It’s obvious - consistency is key.

Our skin goes through a natural renewal cycle, called desquamation. Desquamation basically gets rid of all the old, damaged, and dead skin cells, and replaces them with new, fresh ones. Then after a cycle of around a month, those new and fresh skin cells become damaged, aged, and die too, and get replaced with other skin cells.

So where’s the catch and why is desquamation important when considering a skincare routine? Well, because, in a way, you need to be more consistent, and more persistent than your skin’s natural regeneration cycle. And the skin needs all the help it can get. These cycles are also why it is so difficult to get rid of acne fast, or getting rid of acne for good.

By adopting a daily skincare routine, you’re refueling your skin every day, boosting its self-healing properties. If you aren’t consistent with it, your skin won’t make use of that. It’s like watering a plant - if you only do it once every couple of months, it will probably dry. But water it on a consistent basis, and with just the right amount, and the plant will grow, bloom, bear fruits, and thrive. So, if you want to see your skin live up to its full, glorious potential, adopting a daily skincare routine is the way to go.

2. Adopting A Daily Skincare Routine Can Slow Down Aging

Did you know that our skin’s health is at its peak around the age of 18? It seems odd, but it makes a lot of sense upon further inspection. During our 20s, our skin is still pretty much at its top game, but as soon as we enter our 30s, our entire body slows down. And with it, so does our skin, and its ability to regenerate itself. (And not just that - once we hit adulthood, there is an increased risk of coming down with adult acne as well.)

These losses in efficiency manifest themselves as a reduction in our skin’s elasticity, strength, and smoothness. Slowly but surely, our skin begins its long journey toward dryness, frailty, and ruggedness. And once we hit our 30s, there’s hardly a better time to start a daily skincare routine.

If you want to prevent signs of aging or delay it as much as possible, your daily skincare routine will need to include cleansingexfoliation, and moisturizing. A good skincare routine geared towards keeping your skin youthful can do wonders. But again, consistency is key.

3. Daily Skincare Routines Make Everything Easier

Apart from all other things, a daily skincare routine keeps your skin healthy. And a healthy, and resilient skin has a much easier time when it comes to dealing with the occasional pimple, a wrinkle, or a scar. Following a daily skincare routine will keep your skin healthy, fresh, and nurtured, which in turn makes your skin more resistant to any injuries, changes or irritations. In addition to that, it will also be able to heal itself more quickly. So, the moral of the story is - it’s better to have a daily skincare routine than not.

4. Following A Daily Skincare Routine Can Improve Your Mental Health

From boosting your sense of self-confidence to keeping you grounded in the present moment and overall, making it a bit easier to love yourself, following a daily skincare routine is almost a must. The mere act of taking good care of yourself can be immensely beneficial, especially so in times of stress or moodiness.

Whether you’re a man or a woman, and regardless of the type of skincare routine you’re following, it will definitely help you feel more at home in your skin. Your looks, however so slightly, will improve, and you’ll be meeting yourself in the mirror every morning with a smile. Especially so if you start your day with a nice self-loving ritual like the morning skincare routine

The confidence that taking good care of yourself can bring will rub off on other aspects of your life as well. People who improve their self-confidence and learn to love themselves, often report improvements in their social and professional lives as well. When you find it easier to just be yourself, you’ll find it easier to face challenges all sorts of people and challenges, and just meet life with a lot more courage and wisdom.

5. Some Skin Types Need A Daily Skincare Routine

Skin types are super important, since they determine what skincare products we can use. Practically, most of the skincare decisions that you will have to make will be determined, or tightly intertwined with the type of your skin. Dermatologists have found an easy way to categorize skin types, and there are five of them: normal skin, sensitive skin, combination skin, oily skin, and dry skin.

Depending on your skin type, your daily skincare routine will change. For example, people with dry skin will find including frequent moisturizers in their daily skincare routine very beneficial. People with oily skin, on the other hand, will have to steer clear from products that contain heavy oils, and give serums a try. People with sensitive skin will need to pick their skincare products very, very carefully, since their skin can be easily hurt or irritated. Which doesn’t mean that people with other skin types can’t hurt or irritate their skin.

That unpleasant scenario can be avoided, however, by learning how to do patch tests before trying a product out. Patch tests are super easy to do. Just apply a small amount of the product, or ingredient, over a small patch of skin, and wait to see how your skin will react.

But, to reiterate - just because some people have perfect skin, it doesn’t mean there is nothing you can do about yours. In fact, maybe their skin is perfect exactly because they’re following a daily skincare routine. Or, perhaps they’re just blessed with having a skin that’s a lot more efficient at helping itself.

Whatever the case might be, you can help yourself too. Just find out what your skin type is, devise an appropriate skincare routine, and get started. Beautiful skin is often a lifelong process, so - the sooner you begin, the better.

6. Following A Daily Skincare Routine Saves You Money

As we mentioned above, following a daily skincare routine is by far the most reliable way to maintain your skin’s health, and ensure that you will help it achieve good results. In addition, it makes your skin more resilient, and better at maintaining and repairing itself.

And what does that mean? Well, for one, it means a lot less experimenting. Once you find out what works for you, and which products and ingredients are best to use, you won’t have much need to try out that latest, overhyped, shiny new beauty product. That translates to having more money in your pocket.

But it’s not just that. By keeping your skin in good shape, a daily skincare routine will also act as a sort of preventive shield, or an immunization towards a lot of other types of skin disorders or injuries. A person who follows a daily skincare routine and keeps their skin strong and flexible, will not be as vulnerable as a person who doesn’t. That, too, translates as more money in your pocket.

Not to mention the boost to your confidence and mental well-being. That means less stress, less smoking, less alcohol, less whatever your vice may be. I don’t need to remind you what that translates to either.

7. Adopting A Daily Skincare Routine Can Help You Develop Good Habits

And kick bad ones. See, the thing with habits is that you can develop a habit to change your habits. Or, ideally, to replace bad habits with good habits. Habits that can serve you and help you live your best life, instead of habits that just make you unhealthy or miserable.

See, once you pick up a daily skincare routine, it almost becomes a ritual. Even though it felt bothersome and like a chore in the beginning, you actually want to do it after a while. It’s the same with exercise, shifting to healthy food, or simply getting up early in the morning - or going early to bed. Each habit evokes resistance in us at the start. But that’s just inertia - we need some pushing in a different direction before we get going. And then we go by ourselves.

So, use this ability to change yourself, and change things for the better. One habit can lead to another, and why not use your daily skincare routine as a springboard for turning your life around? Good skin looks good on a good life.
